Investment Types

True North is looking to make two primary types of investments:

Business Acquisition – We are generally seeking to acquire a controlling interest in a target company and make it part of the True North portfolio. We are cash buyers and are generally not looking for stock or equity trades. At times, we may take a position of less than 100% of a target company either directly, or through a affiliated investment group.

MBO – We like opportunities where a key manager or an entire management group is looking to buy a company but needs a capital partner. We find that motivated, capable management interested in making a serious investment in an MBO alongside our capital is a great recipe for success.

Investment Criteria

At True North, we find that some of the best investments often come from unlikely places. As such, our team reviews many different types of opportunities. However, our favorite opportunities often have many of the following characteristics:

1. We like niche companies with defensible market positions and high marketshare.

2. We like companies with long operating histories showing solid, stable top-line revenues.

3. We like companies that are in simple, straightforward businesses.

4. We like companies with between $10 and $150 million USD in revenue. We find some great businesses in this size range that are often overlooked by those looking to invest large amounts of institutional capital.

Our current portfolio includes companies operating nationwide with headquarters throughout the United States. We will look at opportunities in any part of the country.
